Southern softball team to partner with Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation for fund raiser

(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)

More children die from cancer in the United States than any other disease.

The Missouri Southern State University Softball team has teamed up with the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation's Vs. Cancer program to change this.

The team is participating in the "ESU 5-State Vs. Cancer Classic" to raise awareness and funds for kids with cancer, and they will celebrate their efforts during the event February 21-23, 2020.

Started by a pediatric brain cancer survivor and former collegiate athlete, Vs. Cancer empowers any sports team, any athlete, and any community to help kids with cancer. As a signature fundraising campaign of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, Vs. Cancer proceeds help fund child life programs in local children's hospitals and groundbreaking research to cure pediatric brain tumors, the deadliest childhood cancer.

In partnership with Vs. Cancer, the Missouri Southern State University Softball team has selected the Ronald McDonald House in Joplin, Mo. to receive a portion of the funds they raise. The teams also plan to honor a pediatric cancer survivor during the event.

Dave Mays, campaign manager of Vs. Cancer's central region, understands how vital these athletes are to the nonprofit's mission. "We applaud the efforts and generous spirit of the Missouri Southern State University Softball program! We are so grateful for the support that the Missouri Southern State Softball community gives towards this partnership with Vs. Cancer. Vs. Cancer wasn't just built by athletes for athletes. We were started by a pediatric brain cancer survivor, and we see every day how important family support and research are for children & teens to thrive. With the support of these incredible teams and the entire Missouri Southern State Softball community, we're fighting for healthier, happier futures for these kids!"
