(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)

The Missouri Southern baseball team scored early and often and got a strong performance from Zac Shoemaker as the Lions took out No. 27 ranked St. Cloud State 13-1 today in seven innings at Warren Turner Field.

Southern (9-1) got home runs from Brad Willis, Joe Kinder, Jordan Fitzpatrick and Dexter Swims, while Matt Miller had a pair of doubles. Fitzpatrick's longball was a grand slam, while Willis and Troy Gagan both had three hits and three runs scored on the afternoon. Kinder drove in two and scored twice, while Tommy Stevenson had two hits and two runs scored. Clay Milas and Swims had a run each, while Milas drove in a run and Swims knocked in two.

Shoemaker went the distance to improve to 3-0 on the season with seven strikeouts, three hits allowed and one unearned run.

SCSU (2-1) got on the board first with a run in the top of the first, but the Lions answered right back. After a Gagan RBI single scored Willis, Kinder hit a no-doubter to left center to put Southern up 3-1 after one.

The Lions then got five runs in the third, the first coming off a homer from Willis to Left. Southern loaded the bases and Fitzpatrick got his first homer of the season with a grand slam to right center.

Southern added two more runs in the fourth on a pair of passed balls, then scored three in the sixth on an RBI from Milas and a two-run homer from Swims.

The Lions will be back in action tomorrow afternoon taking on Washburn. First pitch from Warren Turner Field is slated for 4 pm.
