MSSU men to take on Emporia State

The 19th-ranked Missouri Southern men's basketball team will continue its road swing as the Lions take on the Hornets of Emporia State on Saturday. Tip off from White Auditorium is slated for 5 pm.

The Series

Missouri Southern holds a 53-31 advantage in the series with Emporia State. Southern has won 16 of the last 21 and 12 of the last 15. The Lions have a 32-10 record against Emporia in Joplin, and are 20-21 in games played at Emporia. The Lions have won the only neutral site game.








The Southern-Emporia series has produced eight overtime games, including two double overtime thrillers. The Lions have won six of the overtime games. 

Missouri Southern's biggest margin of victory was 43 points, 125-82, on Jan. 19, 2002. Emporia State's biggest victory spread was in 2007, (Jan. 17, 2007) defeating the Lions 105-67 (32 points).

Cam Martin leads the MIAA in free throw attempts and made, while ranking second in defensive rebounds, double-doubles, scoring, rebounds, total field goals, total points and total rebounds. Reggie Tharp is second in assist to turnover ratio, while Braelon Walker is second in three point percentage.

NCAA Team Stat Leaders

The Lions, as a team, rank tenth in rebound margin and scoring margin, while ranking 23rd in three pointers per game, 26th in defensive rebounds per game, 32nd in assist to turnover ratio, 33rd in assists per game and total three pointers made, 34th in field goal percentage, 35th in three point percentage, 36th in rebound margin and scoring defense, and 38th in total rebounds.

NCAA Individual Stat Leaders


Cam Martin ranks 18th in double-double's, 27th in free throw attempts, 28th in defensive rebounds per game, 30th in both free throws made and rebounding, 32nd in scoring and 33rd in total rebounds. Braelon Walker is 19th in three point percentage.

National Ranking

The Lions are ranked No. 19 in the NABC poll this week and 21st in the D2 SID's Poll. In the history of the NABC Poll, the Lions have been ranked 73 times, including 23-consecutive weeks at one time. The team has been No. 1 once (in the 2011 season).
