MSSU women's track and field jumps from 13th to fifth in NCAA Division II Rating Index

The Missouri Southern State University Men's track and field team stayed steady at No. 6 in the second week of the regular season edition of the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Rating Index.

In addition, the MSSU women jumped eight spots from No. 13 to No. 5. They were ranked No. 5 entering the season thanks to the preseason poll that was announced.

The release came from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday.








Entering this week, Gidieon Kimutai and Josh Norville have Southern's two automatic qualifying marks. Kimutai posted time of 14:03.08 to sit fourth in the 5,000-meter. Norville, who was named the MIAA Field Athlete of the Week, punched his ticket this past week as he sits No.3 in the long jump with a mark of 7.60 meters.
The men also have 11 provisional qualifying marks with five of them being in the top ten.

On the women's side, MSSU has 16 provisional qualifying marks with six in the top ten. Payton Roberts holds the highest ranked mark as she is sitting second in the shot put with a mark of 15.38 meters.

The Lions will be back in action this Friday and Saturday (Feb. 7 and 8) when they host the MSSU Lion Invite at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
