MSSU track and field back in action at Gorilla Classic

The No. 4 ranked Missouri Southern women's and No. 6 ranked men's track and field teams will return to the Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kansas this weekend, for the 5th Annual Indoor Gorilla Classic hosted by Pitt State.

The meet is set to kickoff at 2:00 p.m. on Friday with field events while track events are scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.

On Saturday, track events are scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. while field events are set to start at noon.








Earlier this week, the Division II Indoor Track & Field Rating Index had both men's and women's teams ranked in the top six of the national polls. The men stayed steady at No. 6 while the women moved up one spot from No. 5 to No. 6.

Last week, the Lions posted three automatic qualifying mark and 20 provisional marks.

Entering this week, Gidieon Kimutai, Josh Norville and Emily Presley have Southern's three automatic qualifying marks. Kimutai posted time of 14:03.08 to sit fourth in the 5,000-meter. Norville, who was named the MIAA Field Athlete of the Week once again, improved his mark as he sits No.2 in the long jump with a mark of 7.65 meters. Emily Presley, who was named MIAA Women's Field Athelte of the Week, holds the No. 1 mark in the pole vault as she cleared 4.20 meters.

The men also have 12 provisional qualifying marks with five of them being in the top ten.

On the women's side, MSSU has 16 provisional qualifying marks with four in the top ten.
