MSSU softball loses to University of Minnesota-Duluth 2-0

EMPORIA, Kan.-The Missouri Southern State University softball team closed out the Emporia State University 5-State Classic Tournament on Sunday as the Lions fell to the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs, 2-0.

Southern fell to 6-5 on the season as the pitchers took center stage in today's game.

Abby Atkin was tabbed with the loss as she fired 78 pitches and struck out four of the 21 batters she faced while allowing just the two runs on five hits and one walk. Meredith Iden threw two-thirds of an inning in relief.








Offensively, Southern had five hits and one walk.

Due to the threat of rain later today and into Monday, the Lions' last two games of the tournament were cancelled. Southern will now return home and host Missouri Western, Missouri S&T and Northern State for the 2020 Teri Mathis-Zenner Memorial Tournament at the Pat Lipira Softball Complex. MSSU will open the tournament, which will have 11 games over three days, at noon on Friday (Feb. 28) against Missouri Western.
