Ozzie Smith praises play, work ethic of Cardinals infielder Tommy Edmon

Babyfaced infielder-outfielder Tommy Edmon, who immediately became a St. Louis Cardinals fan favorite during his 2019 rookie season is working to improve his fielding skills this spring and he couldn't have a better teacher.

Cardinals Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith who played shortstop of the World Series champion team in 1982 and earned numerous Gold Gloves during his 15 seasons in St. Louis, has been working with Edmon and is singing his praises.

Smith said he does not expect the sophomore jinx to hit Edmon, who ended the 2019 season as the starting third baseman.

"Tommy Edmon was one of the reasons the Cardinals got better," Smith told KOLR, Springfield. Edmon played for the Springfield Cardinals for two seasons.

"They always talk about the sophomore jinx. I don't think that will be the case with Tommy at all because of his work ethic, he has a high baseball IQ and he continues to work hard.
