MSSU track and field teams perform well at Arkansas Qualifier

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The No. 2 ranked Missouri Southern State University Track and Field women's team and No. 6 ranked men's team performed well at their final tune up before the MIAA Championships on Friday as they competed in the Arkansas Qualifier hosted by the University of Arkansas in the Randal Tyson Track Center.

In the 15 events that the Lions had representatives in on Friday, they posted 11 provisional qualifying marks, two automatic qualifying marks, two event wins and a two school records.

The meet started with a school record for the men as Rajindra Campbell broke his own record that he set last week at the 5th Annual Gorilla Classic. He had a throw of 19.04 meters (62-5.75) and moved into the No. 2 spot in the NCAA rankings with his automatic qualifying mark. Josh Fulmer also had a provisional mark (16.33m) in the event.








Josh Fulmer won the weight throw with a toss of 19:05 meters while Travis Petersen finished in fourth with a throw of18.47 meters. They are both provisional marks.

Brendan Watkins had a provisional mark in the long jump as he leapt 7.19 meters.

On the women's side, Emily Presley continued her dominance in the pole vault as she cleared 4.30 meters (14-1.25) to set a new MSSU record. The mark is the sixth best in NCAA Division II history, and she holds the top mark in the NCAA standings.

Samantha Petry finished in a tie for seventh with a provisional mark of 3.75 meters and Elena Bisotto and Lauren Sutherland finished 12th and 15th because of attempts with provisional marks of 3.60 meters.

Payton Roberts had a provisional mark of 15.46 meters in the shot put while Kirsten Leisinger had a throw of 17.89 in the weight throw for a provisional mark.

On the track, Kiara Smith shaved a hundredth of a second off her season-best as she posted a provisional qualifying mark of 8.61 to finish second in the 60-meter hurdles. It doubled as the fourth best time in Southern history. Jasmine Deckard had a provisional mark of 24.42 in the 200-meter dash.

Below are MSSU's complete results. The Lions return to Pittsburg State next week for the 2020 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships on Friday, Feb. 28 through Sunday, March 1.
