MIAA/GLVC Crossover baseball tournament to begin Thursday at Missouri Southern

The Missouri Southern baseball team will play host to the 2020 MIAA/GLVC Crossover starting tomorrow morning and the event will go through Monday with four games each day starting at 10 am from Warren Turner Field.

Southern (6-1) is coming off a weekend where the Lions swept a four-game series from the University of Mary. The Lions had a stellar weekend as Zach Parish earned MIAA Pitcher of the Week honors after throwing the tenth no-hitter in the history of MSSU baseball when the Lions won 13-0 in game one.

Zac Shoemaker struck out 15 batters in game two and Will Bausinger struck out 11 in his win in game three. Southern carried a 2.10 ERA this past weekend and the Lions' bullpen did not give up a single run.








Offensively, Southern hit .305 as a team this past week with Joe Kinder leading the way. Kinder hit .417 and had two homers with nine RBIs. The Lions were 18-for-20 on the basepaths, as well.

So far this season, Parish and Shoemaker are both 2-0 with Parish carying a 0.69 ERA and Shoemaker leading the team with 23 strikeouts. Shoemaker ranks third nationally in strikeouts, while Parish is eighth and Basusinger is 17th. The trio is 1, 3 and 5 in the league in that category.

Offensively, Brad Willis ranks third nationally in walks and leads the MIAA in that category. Willis is 14th in dobules, while Troy Gagan is 7th in sacrifice flies and Clay Milas is 13th in triples.

As a team, Southern ranks 5th nationally in walks and 2nd in both stolen bases and strikeouts per nine innings.

Southern will open up the tournament at 10 am on Friday morning against McKendre (0-0). the Lions will take on Missouri-St. Louis (0-0) at 1 pm on Saturday afternoon, while taking on St. Cloud State (0-0) at 1 pm on Sunday. Southern closes out the tournament on Monday at 4 pm taking on Washburn (5-3).
