MSSU baseball completes four-game sweep of University of Mary

The Missouri Southern baseball team completed the series sweep of the University of Mary, winning by the scores of 9-5 and 11-2 today at Warren Turner Field.

The Lions (6-1) got a win in game one from Will Bausinger as he went six innings, striking out 11 in the process.

The 11 strikeouts give him 212 for his career and move him into 2nd place all-time on the MSSU career strikeout list, passing Doug Stockham in the process. Scott Duensing threw the seventh, striking out a batter in the process.








Tommy Stevenson had a home run, two hits, three RBIs and a run scored in game one. Brad Willis, Clay Milas, Troy Gagan, Dexter Swims and Joe Kinder all had RBIs in the game, while Gagan scored three times. Gagan and Kinder both had homers in the game, while Willis, Milas and Stevenson had a double each.

Game two started out as a pitcher's duel as Cole Woods started and went four innings, striking out six. Zach Zeller threw two innings and struck out a pair, while Jeremiah Kennedy threw the final inning picking up two strikeouts.

With the game tied at two in the fifth, Southern scored four runs in the fifth and five in the sixth to break open the game. Jordan Fitzpatrick drove in three and went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while Henry Kusiak, Stevenson, Swims and Matt Miller had an RBI each. Willis scored three times, while Gagan had a pair of runs scored. Kusiak, Stevenson and Marco Navarro had a run each.

Fitzpatrick had a pair of doubles in the game, while Navarro had a double of his own.

Mary (2-6) had an RBI from Jaxon Kostka in game two, while Spencer Gillund, Calvin James and Alec Battest had homers in game one.

Southern will be back in action February 13-16 as the Lions play host to the MIAA/GLVC Crossover at Warren Turner Field.
