MSSU's Zach Parish named MIAA Pitcher of the Week for second straight week

(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)

For the second week in a row, Missouri Southern senior lefty Zach Parish has been named the MIAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week as announced by the league office today.

Parish, a native of Tahlequah, Okla., helped the Lions go 4-0 this past weekend as Southern swept the games in the MIAA/GLVC Crossover it hosted at Warren Turner Field.

Parish threw five innings of three-hit shutout ball against Missouri-St. Louis as he moved to 3-0 on the season. He struck out 14 batters in the game, moving his career strikeout totals (at NSU and MSSU) up to 328 which is 22 from breaking the MIAA career strikeout record that has stood for more than 40 years.

Parish and the Lions' pitching staff were impressive this weekend carding a 0.56 ERA and striking out 41 batters, while walking just five. Parish was also named to the All-Tournament Team for his efforts.

The Lions will be back in action this weekend as Southern plays host to Southwest Minnesota State. The two teams will play a pair of games on Saturday beginning at 1 pm and one game on Sunday at noon.
