BENTONVILLE, Ark.-The Missouri Southern Lions Softball team capped off an undefeated weekend on Sunday as they earned two wins, an 8-6 win over Henderson and a 13-1 run-rule win over Quincy University at the 2020 Alvy Early Classic. The Lions are now 5-3 on the season.

Missouri Southern 8, Henderson State 6

Trailing down 1-0 after the first three innings, the Lions exploded for three runs including a double by Kristen Wade to take a 4-1 lead. The Lady Reddies scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth including a two-run dinger to recapture the lead.
Southern retaliated with three runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 6-5 lead.

After the two teams traded scoreless at bats, Henderson knotted the game back up with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth.

Southern strung together two hits and an error in the top of the seventh to force the game-winning run and insurance run across the plate.

Missouri Southern 13, Quincy 1

In the second game, Quincy's defense held Southern scoreless until the third inning. The Lions scored two runs in the third, five runs in the fourth and six runs in the fifth.

The Lions put together nine hits and garnered four walks. They did score six unearned runs thanks in part to five Hawk errors. Sophomore shortstop Josie Tofpi went 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk and had a team-high four RBI.

MSSU will return to action this weekend, when they travel to Emporia State University for the Emporia State Softball Classic. Their first game is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday (Feb. 21) when they play the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.). It will be their first of six games on the weekend.
