Edmond, Okla. -- Shaylon Sharp had ten kills and Kylee Kaaihue dished out 24 assists, but the Missouri Southern volleyball team couldn't overcome the offensive attack of No. 15 Central Oklahoma and fell three sets to none. Individual set scores were 16-25, 15-25, and 17-25.
The Lions (0-11, 0-2 MIAA) were led by Sharp's and Kaaihue's afternoon. Morgan Nash had ten digs, while Janelle Brehm had eight kills and eight digs.
UCO (14-2, 2-0 MIAA) got 11 kills from Karyn Chrisman and ten from Taylor Bevis. Ericka Scholl had 22 assists.
The two teams stayed neck-and-neck in the opening set, but a 7-2 run from the Bronchos midway through the set put UCO up 18-12 and forced a Lions' timeout. The Lions scored a point out of the timeout on a kill from Sharp, but wouldn't get any closer.
Set two was much the same with the score tied at nine midway through the set. UCO, however went on a 10-0 run to put the set away.
Southern jumped out to a 12-8 lead in set three after a block from Mikayla Monk and Kylee Kaaihue, but a 9-1 run from the Bronchos put UCO on top 17-13 and UCO would not look back.
Southern will be back in action on Tuesday as the Lions travel to Southwest Baptist for a 6 pm matchup with the Bearcats.
