MSSU women's golf picked ninth in MIAA preseason poll

(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)

The Missouri Southern women's golf team has been picked to finish 9th in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll released by the league last week.

Southern is in its first year of the program under head coach Mike Wheeler. The Lions placed 16th out of 18 teams in the first event they played in at Northeastern State to start the season. In that tournament, Kylie Carnes led the Lions with a two-round total of 173, tied for 81st.

Northeastern State is the preseason favorite to win the league. The RiverHawks received a narrow margin over second-place Central Oklahoma. Central Missouri and Missouri Western tied for third, while Nebraska-Kearney, Lindenwood, Northwest Missouri, Southern, Southwest Baptist and Lincoln round out the poll.

The Lions will next be in action on Oct. 1 and 2 as the Lions travel to Edmond, Okla. to compete in the UCO Invitational at the Golf Club of Edmond.
