MSSU men's golf in fifth after first day of NSU Classic

Muskogee, Okla. -- The Missouri Southern Golf team is in fifth place after day one of the 20th Annual NSU Golf Classic played at Muskogee Country Club.

This is the first MIAA points event of the 2018-19 season and after one day, the Lions are the fourth-best MIAA team in the field.

As a team, the Lions were one-under par in round one and two-under in round two as the team posted scores of 283 and 282, respectively.



Jeremy Dunham shot a four-under par 67 in round one and followed that up with a even par 71 in round two to finish four-under and tied for ninth place. Tristan Haltom had a blistering back nine in round two that saw him birdie five holes and finish four under in round two with a 67. He had a one-over 72 in round one and is three-under par and tied for 16th individually.

Adam Vining is tied for 50th at four over after the two rounds, while Logan Greer is tied for 77th (8-over) and Taylor Haltom is tied for 88th (11-over).

Lindenwood is 16-under par as a team and leads Northeastern State by five strokes after day one. Central Missouri is six strokes back in third, followed by Arkansas Tech at nine-under in fourth. The Lions are in fifth at three-under, followed by Southern Nazarene, Washburn, Central Oklahoma, Missouri Western, Minnesota State, Southwestern Oklahoma, Harding, Oklahoma Baptist, Henderson State, Bemidji State, Lincoln, Southwest Baptist and Fort Hays State to round out the team scores.

Southern will play one final round of 18 holes tomorrow and will tee off beginning at 8:45 am.
