St. Charles, Mo. - The Missouri Southern Women's soccer team outshot Lindenwood 14-9 on its way to a 1-0 road victory inside Hunter Stadium Friday afternoon.
With ten minutes left in regulation, freshman forward Bailey Belcher headed the ball forward and collected it a couple moments later for a direct shot at the goal from ten yards out to give MSSU (6-2-1, 2-0-0 MIAA) the win.
Sophomore defender Rylie Johnson blasted one off a free kick from her own goal which found Sarah Tatum looking up for a header that was then headed by Belcher for the run and score. It was Belcher's third goal of the season.
The defense kept LWU (4-4-1, 1-1-0 MIAA) away from tying throughout the final minutes of regulation, including a corner kick that led to multiple opportunities for Lindenwood.
Junior goalkeeper Luz Galindo registered her second shutout after making four saves (nine shots faced) and spending all 90 minutes between the posts.
The Lions prepare for battle as they face No. 8 Central Missouri on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
