Missouri Southern head basketball coach Jeff Boschee has announced the promotion of Sam McMahon to Associate Head Coach effective immediately.
McMahon is entering his fifth year as an assistant coach with Missouri Southern after serving four years on the staff at Missouri State including the previous three for former MSSU Assistant Coach Paul Lusk.
Since joining the MSSU staff in 2014, the Lions have averaged 19 wins a season, compiled a 76-44 overall record and earned at least a top four finish in the MIAA regular season every year. In 2018, the Lions finished in second place with a 15-4 conference record and earned an at-large bid as a five seed in the Central Region of the NCAA tournament.
In the past four seasons at MSSU, McMahon has helped recruit, develop and coach multiple Lion players that have earned All-MIAA, All-Region and All-American honors. Elyjah Clark was named the MIAA Freshman of the Year in 2017 and four players have gone on to sign professional contracts overseas. McMahon has been involved in all aspects of the program while coaching both the guards and post players during his tenure.
McMahon earned a bachelor's degree from Delaware in 2008 and a masters from Central Methodist in 2010.
