MSSU volleyball drops two in MIAA/GAC Challenge

Shawnee, Okla. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team dropped a pair of matches today in the opening day of the 2018 MIAA/GAC Challenge, hosted by Oklahoma Baptist University. Southern fell three sets to none to Oklahoma Baptist in the opener and 3-0 to Arkansas Tech in the second match of the day.

In match one, individual set scores were 19-25, 14-25 and 17-25. The Lions (0-7) were led offensively by Janelle Brehm as the sophomore had ten kills and 11 digs in the match, while hitting .323. Morgan Nash and Kyle Kaaihue both had nine assists, while Sydney Dose and Cassie Walton had nine and eight digs, respectively.

Oklahoma Baptist (5-6) was led by Mikayla Watson with 14 kills, while Jenna Gremmel dished out 37 assists. 



In match two, individual set scores were 17-25, 17-25 and 13-25. Southern was again led by Brehm with 11 kills and nine digs. Kaaihue had a match-high 22 assists, while Walton and Dose had nine and seven digs, respectively.

Tech (6-4) got 12 kills from Hunter Eshnaur, while Amanda Milnick had 19 assists.

The Lions will be back in action tomorrow with two matches, beginning at noon with Northwestern Oklahoma State. Southern will then play Southern Nazarene at 6 pm.
