MSSU volleyball falls to Drury in three

(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)

Springfield, Mo. -- Bridgette Jaeger had 12 kills, while Kylee Kaaihue dished out 17 assists and Alicia Pickett had a match-high four blocks as the Missouri Southern volleyball team fell three sets to none tonight at tenth-ranked Drury.

The Lions (2-13) got five kills and 12 digs from Jaeger, while Pickett had five kills and four blocks. Kaaihue dished out 17 assists, while Morgan Nash had 11 digs.

Drury (13-2) got 12 kills from Abby Welther and 24 assists from Kendra Slater.

The Panthers led from start to finish in the first set en route to the 25-15 win.

The second set saw the Lions trail 20-10 late in the set, but Southern reeled off nine-straight points to get within one (20-19), but couldn't get any closer. Southern got to within 24-22, but a final kill from Welther gave the Panthers the set, 25-23.

The third set saw the Lions led 4-2 early on and again 8-6. The set was tied at nine midway through, but Drury went on a 4-1 run and led 13-10. The Lions, however, got back to within one (15-14), forcing a Drury timeout, but that would be as close as they could get. Drury went on an 8-0 run to put away the set.

Southern will be back in action this weekend as the Lions will play host to 17th-ranked Central Missouri at 6 pm on Friday and Lindenwood at 1 pm on Saturday. Both matches will be played inside Young Gymnasium.
