Kimutai takes second overall, MSSU men's cross country takes runner-up at Southern Stampede

Missouri Southern freshman Gidieon Kimutai wsa second overall and the Lions cross country team placed second as a team at the 29th running of the Missouri Southern Stampede this morning at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course.

Kimutai was one of two Lions in the top-15 as Cody Berry placed 12th. Kimutai traversed the 8k course in a time of 24:47.8, just two seconds off of the lead runner. Berry crossed the line in a time of 25:28.4, while Nickson Kiptoo placed 20th in a time of 25:47.3. Josh Webb (24th) and Michael Shanahan (27th) crossed the finish line in times of 25:55.5 and 25:56.3, respectively.



Tadd Capron was 46th in a time of 26:33.9, while Jared Ozee placed 58th in a time of 26:51.1. Kevin Koester was 88th in a time of 27:29.9, while Luis Suaste placed 212nd in a time of 29:36.6.

Tulsa had three runners in the top 12 and just edged out the Lions for the team title. The Golden Hurricane finished with 59 points to the Lions' 77. Sioux Falls was third, followed by Nebraska-Kearney, West Texas A&M, KC Smoke, Pittsburg State, Washburn, Southwest Baptist and East Central to round out the top ten team scores.

The Lions will be back in action next weekend when Southern travels to the University of Arkansas to compete in the Chili Pepper Invite.
