Bolivar, Mo. - The Missouri Southern women's soccer team rebounded with a 2-1 victory over the Southwest Baptist Bearcats on the SBU Soccer Field Sunday afternoon.
With ten-minute left and the match tied at 1-1, MSSU (4-1-1) regained the lead as senior Maria Sturluson slid a pass using her right foot that deflected off a defender towards teammate Sarah Tatum for a shot beating the goalkeeper on the left side.
Sophomore midfielder Meredith Belrose provided an assist on the first score upon moving the ball up to a weaving Bailey Belcher who beat a SBU defender in the 62nd minute for the goal and her second one of the season.
SBU (0-5-1) tied the match at 1-1 in the 73rd minute on a free kick that went straight down off the crossbar.
Goalkeeper Ashlynn Pounds registered three saves on 12 shots faced in 90 minutes in her second-straight start and first win in goal for Southern.
The Lions return home to conclude their non-conference slate by hosting Central Oklahoma on Friday, Sept. 21 at 6:00 pm.
