Missouri Southern volleyball loses two matches in GAC/MIAA Challenge

Shawnee, Okla. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team dropped its final two matches of the 2018 GAC/MIAA Challenge today, falling three sets to one against Northwestern Oklahoma and 3-0 to Southern Nazarene.

Individual set scores for the Lions (0-9) in match one were 21-25, 15-25, 25-18 and 15-18. Southern was led by nine kills from Shaylon Sharp and eight kills from Janelle Brehm. Sharp added ten digs, while Kylee Kaaihue dished out 27 assists and Morgan Nash had a match-high 20 digs. The Lions had eight team blocks and 54 digs.

NWOSU (9-4) got 15 kills from Kaydee Honeycutt and 24 assists from Kaitlyn Robinson.



In the Lions' second match of the day, Southern fell in in a tight match to Southern Nazarene. Individual set scores were 23-25, 21-25 and 21-25.

Sharp had nine kills and ten digs, while Brehm and Sydney Dose had eight kills each. Kaaihue had 26 assists, while Nash had nine digs. The Lions had eight team blocks again in the match.

SNU (6-7) got 21 kills from Bailee Turang and 11 kills from Meagan Ellis. Kylie Smith had 28 assists.

The Lions will open up MIAA play next weekend as the Lions travel to Pittsburg State on Friday, September 14 for a 6 pm match and then on to Central Oklahoma on Saturday for a 3 pm match.
