MSSU cross country to play host to Southern Stampede Saturday

The Missouri Southern cross country programs will play host to one of the largest meets in the country this Saturday when the Lions will run in the 29th Annual Missouri Southern Stampede on the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course.

The meet, which annually sees upwards of 3,000 runners compete in multiple university and high school races, will begin at 8 am with the college/juco women's 5k race. The university open women's race which Southern will compete in will begin at 8:30 am. The college/juco men's race will kick off at 9 am with the university men's race beginning at 9:45 am. The Southern men will run in the university division race.



The high school races begin at 10:30 am and will conclude with a 1 pm boys JV race.

The women's race will feature four Division I teams with 8th-ranked Arkansas headlining a group that includes Missouri State, Tulsa and Wichita State. Tenth-ranked Pittsburg State and 21st-ranked Oklahoma Baptist will be the lone ranked Division II squads amongst a group that will see Central Missouri, Central Oklahoma, Emporia State, Lincoln, Lindenwood, Missouri Western, Nebraska-Kearney, Southwest Baptist and Washburn join the Lions representing the MIAA.

On the men's side, two Division I teams will be racing with representation from Tulsa and Wichita State. The Lions will be amongst three Division II ranked programs as the 20th-ranked Lions will join No. 17 Sioux Falls and No. 18 West Texas A&M as the three ranked programs. Central Missouri, Emporia State, Lindenwood, Missouri Western, Nebraska-Kearney, Pittsburg State, Southwest Baptist and Washburn join Southern as MIAA squads competing in the event.
