Janelle Brehm and Bridgette Jaeger both posted double-doubles but the Missouri Southern volleyball team was on the wrong end of a thriller, falling three sets to two today to Lindenwood. Individual set scores were 25-15, 27-25, 14-25, 11-25 and 9-15.
Southern (2-15, 2-5 MIAA) got 12 kills and 21 digs from Brehm, while Jaeger posted totals of 13 kills and 10 digs. Kylee Kaaihue had 36 assists and seven digs, while Morgan Nash had 15 digs. Alicia Pickett had eight kills and a block, while Olivia Lewis had three kills and seven blocks. Shaylon Sharp had seven kills and five digs.
Lindenwood (10-7, 2-5 MIAA) had three in double-figures for kills, led by Sadie Kosciuk with 15. Allyson Clancy had 45 assists.
Southern won set one convincingly as the set featured four tied scores and no lead changes. Southern forced timeouts for Lindenwood at 9-6 and again at 16-8.
Set two saw the Lions down 12-7 midway, but MSSU fought back and got to 16-15, to force a Lindenwood timeout. Southern trailed again at 21-19, forcing a MSSU timeout. Southern scored two-straight points out of the timeout to tie the score. The score was tied at 22, 23, 24 and 25, before two-straight points for Southern gave the set to MSSU.
Set three and four were all Lindenwood. One tie and one lead change were part of set three, while Lindenwood led from start to finish in the fourth. Set five saw Lindenwood lead 8-4 at the turn. Southern got to within three (9-6), but wouldn't get any closer.
Southern will be back in action next Friday as the Lions play host to Washburn at 6 pm inside Young Gymnasium.
