MSSU men's cross country places sixth at Chili Pepper Festival

Fayetteville, Ark. -- The 13th-ranked Missouri Southern men's cross country team placed sixth overall and Gidieon Kimutai was 15th individually as the Lions competed at the 30th Annual Chili Pepper Festival ran at the University of Arkansas Agri Park.

The Lions were the second-highest finishing Division II program at the meet, behind only No. 14 Dallas Baptist. The University of Arkansas won the meet with all five scoring runners int he top-20. Iowa Central CC was second, followed by Dallas Baptist, North Texas, Wichita State, Southern, Oklahoma City, Fort Hays State, Alabama-Huntsville and Stephen F. Austin to round out the top-ten.



Kimutai placed 15th individually as the top finisher for the Lions with a time of 24:49.6 over the 8k course. Josh Webb was 43rd in a time of 25:39.6, while Nickson Kiptoo was 55th in a time of 25:53.9. Michael Shanahan was 69th, while Tadd Capron and Kevin Koester placed 76th and 77th, respectively. Jared Ozee placed 92nd.

Southern will be back in action on October 13 as the Lions will be at Fort Hays State.
