MSSU volleyball falls to Central Oklahoma in three

Missouri Southern freshman Shaylon Sharp picked up a double-double as the Lions fell at home to No. 15 Central Oklahoma, 3-0 today. Individual set scores were 16-25, 14-25 and 20-25.

Southern (3-21, 3-11 MIAA) was led by Sharp's performance at 11 kills and ten digs. Janelle Brehm had nine kills and eight digs, while Kylee Kaaihue dished out 23 assists and Morgan Nash had 11 digs.

UCO (24-4, 12-2 MIAA) was led by 11 kills from Taylor Bevis.

Set one saw five tied scores and two lead changes. Both teams traded points early on, before the Bronchos pulled ahead 10-6. The lead was 15-9 before a Southern timeout, but the Lions wouldn't get any closer.



Set two saw five tied scores early on, but again, the Bronchos pulled ahead midway. Set three saw a much closer score, with ten ties and three lead changes. The Lions led 10-9, before UCO put together a 4-1 run to lead 13-11 and force a Lions' timeout. Southern got as close as one (13-12) on a kill from Sharp, but could not catch up.

The Lions will be back in action next weekend, traveling to Northwest Missouri on Friday and Missouri Western on Saturday.
