Marten goal gives MSSU soccer lead, but Emporia comes back for win

Emporia, Kan. - The Missouri Southern Women's soccer team dropped a match on the road as the Emporia State Hornets scored with 1:13 left for a 2-1 win inside the ESU Pitch Friday afternoon.

The Lions (6-3-2, 2-1-1 MIAA) took an early 1-0 lead when freshman Courtney Marten scored her third goal of the season after collecting the rebound off a block from the Hornets' goalkeeper.

Junior goalkeeper Luz Galindo made five saves on 20 shots faced in all 90 minutes between the posts.



ESU's (8-2-1, 3-1-0 MIAA) Rachel Marshall recorded the game winner on a shot from 15 yards' out from the net. The Hornets tied the match up at 1-1 on a header off a free kick by Makayla Brady in the 73rd minute of play.

Missouri Southern looks to rebound in its second match of the weekend on Sunday against Washburn at 2:00 pm.
