MSSU men's golf set for Blue Tiger Invitational

(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)

The Missouri Southern men's golf team will conclude the fall portion of its season this week as the Lions travel to Jefferson City to compete in the Blue Tiger Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.

This event will be the second of two MIAA points events in the fall and will be held at Jefferson City Country Club. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday with 18 holes on Tuesday.

Coming into the event, the Lions are in sixth place in the MIAA standings after one event in the schedule. Southern finished sixth amongst MIAA teams at the NSU Golf Classic earlier in the fall. Tristan Haltom (t-10) and Jeremy Dunham (T-16) are both in the running for All-MIAA in the early MIAA individual standings.

After four fall events, Tristan Haltom leads the Lions with a 71.8 stroke average, including six at or below par rounds. Jeremy Dunham and Adam Vining enter the tournament with 73.3 and 73.7 stroke averages while Logan Greer is at 75.0. Taylor Haltom, who has struggled early on, is at a 75.3, but shot a 69 in the final round at Henderson State's Battle of the Belt as part of three Lions under par in that round that saw the team shoot a 281.

The Lions will bring both Haltom's, as well as Vining, Dunham and Greer for the scoring five. Tripper Jensen will serve as an individual at the tournament. Jensen is averaging 77.0 this season.

"These guys are coming off of a good finish at the Battle of the Belt in Hot Springs," said head coach Mike Wheeler. "They are due to put in three solid rounds together. This is a tournament with MIAA and regional foes and it will be a battle, but should be fun."
