The Missouri Southern men's and women's cross country programs will head to Hays, Kan. this weekend to take part in the 7th Annual Fort Hays State University Tiger Open.
The race will be run at Sand Plum Nature Trail in Victoria, Kan., about ten miles east of Hays. The Southern women will race at 10:25 am, while the men will race at 11 am.
When the Lions' men step to the starting line, they'll be sporting a new national ranking as Southern has moved up three spots this week to No. 12 nationally. The Lions are the top-ranked and only MIAA team in the top-25. Southern is in at No. 2 again this week in the regional rankings as the Lions have held that spot for most of the season.
Freshman Gidieon Kimutai leads the way for Southern after finishing second at the Southern Stampede, then following that up with a 15th place finish at the prestigious Arkansas Chili Pepper Invite. Southern as a team finished second at the Stampede and 6th at the Chili Pepper after opening the season with a win at Southwest Baptist.
The Southern women are 7th in the latest Central Region poll and is coming off of a 14th place finish at the Arkansas Chili Pepper. Ashlee Kuykendall has been the top performer for the women this year, finishing 10th at the Stampede and 26th at the Chili Pepper. The Lions finished second at the opening meet at SBU and placed ninth in the Stampede and 14th at Arkansas.
