The Missouri Southern women's soccer team tied the game up at 1-1 to force overtime, but fell to Southwest Baptist after the Bearcats scored with one second left in first overtime inside Fred G. Hughes Stadium Friday evening.
The Lions (7-7-3, 3-5-2 MIAA) got on the board with four minutes remaining as sophomore Sarah Tatum gathered the ball off a rebound and shot it toward the left corner of the goal as the teams headed to overtime.
SBU (2-13-2, 2-7-1 MIAA) responded by taking control in the final seconds of the first overtime period and scoring the game-winner after launching a corner kick into the scramble.
Junior goalkeeper Luz Galindo played all 100 minutes between the posts, making two saves on four shots faced.
Prior to the match, the Missouri Southern women's soccer program recognized its five seniors including forward Denine Tahbaz, midfielders Alex McCord and Julia Liberty, and defenders Jeannine Escobar and Maria Sturluson for all their hard work throughout every season while wearing the green and gold.
Now with five teams clinching a spot in the MIAA tournament (Central Oklahoma, Emporia State, Missouri Western, Fort Hays State, and Central Missouri), the Missouri Southern Lions enter their final regular-season match against No. 5 UCO tied with Washburn and Northeastern State for sixth along with Lindenwood and Nebraska-Kearney trailing by one point in the current standings. The match will begin at 1:00 pm inside Tom Thompson Field.
