The Missouri Southern women's soccer team jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period, but could not hang on as Nebraska-Kearney tied it up to force a draw inside Fred G. Hughes Stadium Sunday afternoon.
The Lions (7-6-3, 3-4-2 MIAA) outshot the Lopers 9-8 and held the advantage on corner kicks as well by four (11-7). Senior midfielder Alex McCord scored the first goal on a penalty kick attempt followed by freshman Bailey Belcher's break-away score eight minutes later in the first period.
UNK (5-10-1, 3-5-1 MIAA) got on the board off a rebound inside the box to get within one heading into halftime and then added the tying goal 11 minutes into the second period which remained through 34 minutes left in regulation and two overtime periods.
Junior goalkeeper Luz Galindo registered two saves on four shots faced in all 110 minutes of play.
Women's soccer is back in action on Friday at 6:00 pm for its last home match of season against Southwest Baptist as part of Senior Day where the program's five seniors will be recognized prior to the match.
