Sixteen MSSU cross country athletes named to MIAA Academic Honor Roll

The Missouri Southern cross country program placed a total of 16 student-athletes on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll as the league announced the academic awards for Cross Country.

A total of nine women and seven men earned the honor which goes student-athletes who maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 at the certifying member institution. The individual must also have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms.

Earning the honor for the women were Julianna Determan, Alice Evans, Mady Gepford, Jana Hautala, Kelie Henderson, Gabrielle Hill, Ashley Kuykendall, Danielle Prince and Abbi Rogers. On the men's side, Tadd Capron, Gidieon Kimutai, Kevin Koester, Jarod Ozee, Nathan Painter and Michael Shanahan earned the honor.








In addition to the Academic Honor Roll, the Lions had three student-athletes that earned Scholar-Athlete designations which meant they met the above classification, had a cumulative 3.50 GPA and also were named All-MIAA. Those earning this honor were Determan, Henderson and Ozee. Evans and Henderson earned the MIAA Academic Excellence Award which goes to student-athletes that maintain a perfect 4.00 GPA.

The Lions will be in action this weekend as Southern plays host to the 2019 NCAA Central Region Championships at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course.
