Claremore, Okla. - The Missouri Southern women's basketball squad pulled away in the second half with a lead as large as 35 toward a 75-56 victory over the Rogers State Hillcats inside the Claremore Expo Center Saturday afternoon.

The Lions (2-4) held a 11-point advantage at halftime and extended it through the second half after outscoring the Hillcats (2-4) 29-7 in the third period and reaching their largest lead of 35 at the 9:43 mark of the fourth period.

Seniors Destiny Cozart (18) and Chasidee Owens (16) combined for 34 points on 9-of-19 from the field and 13-of-17 at the free-throw line. Junior center Zoe Campbell registered 11 points, nine rebounds, and four steals while sophomore guard Layne Skiles scored ten points along with three steals.

After falling behind five to nothing to open the game, Campbell scored a layup off a spin move and added a free throw to get the Lions on the board and within two.

Both teams traded baskets minutes later to tie it up (7-7) midway through the first before Cozart launched a three-pointer to give the Lions a 10-7 at the first media timeout and spark a 10-0 run to give the green and gold a 17-7 lead with 2:35 left in the first period.

RSU responded with a 7-0 run to close out the first period to be down three after one period. The home team carried the momentum over into the second period to get within one (19-18) in the first three minutes.

As seconds wound down in the first half, Campbell collected her miss attempt, made move toward the basket, and laid it up while being fouled. She converted the free throw to put the Lions in front 34-23 at the break and would stretch it out towards the win throughout the second half.

Missouri Southern wraps up its four-game road trip in the second meeting of the season against Henderson State on Tuesday at 5:30 pm.
