(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)

Edmond, Okla. - The Missouri Southern football team got within three points at the end of the third quarter, but 28 fourth-quarter points from Central Oklahoma lifted the Bronchos over the Lions 52-27 today at Wantland Stadium.

Southern (2-7, 2-7 MIAA) quarterback Jacob Park went 18-of-37 passing for 212 yards and two touchdowns in the game. Charles West had 14 carries for 65 yards, while also catching four passes for 44 yards and a score. Keandre Bledsoe and Jaedon Stoshak both caught four passes, while Brailon Mouton caught two. Benjamin Phillips caught just two passes, but both were for touchdowns, totaling 107 yards.

Defensively, Richard Jordan Jr. had 11 tackles and a sack for a loss of eight yards. John Ejizu had ten tackles and a forced fumble, while Colton Winder had an interception and Fontez Davis had a fumble return for a touchdown. Jamie Tago and Dylan Bolden both had fumble recoveries as well as the Lions forced four fumbles on the afternoon.

Park moves into second-place all-time in a single season in total offense with 3,220 yards, just 284 from the MSSU record. Park also sits in second with 3,198 passing yards, just 208 off that single-season mark and moves into the top-ten of career passing yardage up to No. 9 in that category. His completion total of 226 this season ranks third so far in a single-season.

UCO (4-5, 4-5 MIAA) was led by quarterback Chandler Garrett with 272 yards rushing and 215 yards passing, including four scores on the ground.

The Bronchos started with the opening kickoff, but a pass to Amonte Phillips from Garrett was fumbled and Davis picked up the ball at the 22-yard line and returned it 78 yards for the scoop and score. The fumble return for a score was the first time since 2011 when Demon Haire did just that against Northwest Missouri.

After back-to-back punts from both teams, the Lions got their second takeaway of the quarter as Levi Marlay forced a fumble that was recovered by Bolden at the Southern 40-yard line. Park hooked up with West for a 43-yard score on the drive to put the Lions up 14-0 with 7:19 left in the quarter.

UCO answered back with a pair of touchdowns and a field goal to lead 17-14 going into the locker room.

After UCO had gone up 24-14 early in the third quarter, the Lions answered back as Park hit Phillips for a 37-yard score to get Southern within three at 24-21.

On the Bronchos' next drive, Alex Alvarado forced a fumble that was recovered by Tago to give the ball back to the Lions. Southern got to the UCO 26-yard line, but a field goal was blocked.

UCO got a pair of touchdowns to start the fourth, before the Lions answered back with a 70-yard pass from Park to Phillips for the duo's second touchdown of the game and make the score 38-27. That would be as close as the Lions would get.

Southern will be back in action next weekend when the Lions play host to Emporia State for Senior Day. Kickoff from Fred G. Hughes Stadium is slated for 3 pm.
