The sixth-ranked Missouri Southern men's cross country team will be in Sacramento this Saturday as the Lions compete at the 2019 Division II Cross Country Championships hosted by the Sacramento City Sports Commission at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex.
The Lions will be making their fourth-straight appearance at the National Championship and will be looking to improve on an 11th-place finish last season. Southern's best performance at the Championships has been a 6th-place finish in 2000.
Southern has won or finished second in every meet it has entered this year and sophomore Gidieon Kimutai has won every event he has competed in.
Kimutai and coach Jamie Burnham were named the Regional Athlete and Coach of the Year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the second year in a row.
The Lions are coming off a Region Title that saw Southern place five runners in the top-20, each earning All-Region honors in the process. Kimutai won the event, while Nickson Kiptoo was eighth, Ryan Riddle was 10th, Cody Berry was 13th and Jarod Ozee placed 20th.
Races will begin at 10 am pacific time with the women's 6k, while the men's 10k will start at 11:15 am pacific time (1:15 pm) central time.
