The Missouri Southern women's cross country team finished eighth today at the 2019 NCAA Division II Central Region Cross Country Championships hosted by the Lions at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course in Joplin.
The Lions finished with 256 points as Augustana took home the team title with 41 points. University of Mary was second with 50 points, while Pittsburg State finished third as all three teams automatically qualify for the 2019 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in Sacramento, Calif. on November 23. Winona State was fourth, followed by Oklahoma Baptist, Minnesota State, Minot State, the Lions, Minnesota Duluth, and East Central to round out the team scores.
Kelie Henderson was the top runner for the Lions with an 18th place finish in a time of 21:57.1 over the 6k course. Juliana Determan finished 25th in a time of 22:12.3 as both her and Henderson earned All-Region honors.
Danielle Prince was 63rd in a time of 23:02.1, while Alice Evans placed 69th in a timeo f 23:06.1. Maegen Derfelt was 83rd in a time of 23:21.6, while Janna Hautala (23:30.6) was 88th and Mady Gepford (23:47.7) finished 100th.
The Lions finish the regular season with top-10 finishes in four of the five events they competed in this year.
