Second-half run leads to Wichita State blowout win over Missouri Southern women

Wichita, Kan. - The Missouri Southern women's basketball team limited the Wichita State Shockers to six points in the second period, but a 18-4 run to open the second half lifted the Shockers to a 80-33 win inside Charlie Kock Arena Monday night.

Senior Chasidee Owens led the Lions with 13 points off a 9-for-11 clip at the free-throw line.

She also grabbed six rebounds to tie forward Jordan Schoenberger for the team leader. Juniors Shaniah Bishop and Morgan Brightwell added five rebounds on top that total.








Schoenberger, Destiny Cozart, and Layne Skiles each finished second on the team in points with four apiece in the loss.

Owens scored the first points for the Lions as the forward got the ball off a turnover, laid the ball up, was fouled on the play, converting on her lone free-throw attempt to halt a 15-0 run by the Shockers to close out the first period down 21-3.

The Lions locked down in the second period as they limited the Shockers to six points and found themselves only down 14 (27-13) heading into halftime.

WSU's Maya Brewer scored 17 points (6-for-7 FG)to pace all scorers. Teammate Carla Bremaud added 16 points (6-for-8 FG) in the victory.

Missouri Southern tips off its regular season this Friday against Henderson State at noon in the first meeting of two this season as part of the Great America Conference / Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association Challenge on the campus of Harding University in
in Searcy, Arkansas.
