MSSU volleyball to wrap up regular season on the road

The Missouri Southern volleyball team will wrap up the regular season this weekend as the Lions travel to Nebraska-Kearney and Fort Hays State in MIAA Volleyball action.

Souther (13-15, 6-12 MIAA) will take on UNK (28-0, 18-0 MIAA) on Friday night at 6 pm, and will face off with Fort Hays State (6-20, 3-15 MIAA) at noon on Saturday.

The Lions rank 25th nationally in digs, while ranking third in the MIAA in that category. Southern ranks 37th nationally in blocks, while leading the league in total blocks and blocks per set. The Lions also rank fourth in the MIAA in assists.







Morgan Nash has six triple-doubles on the season and ranks fourth nationally, while ranking second in the MIAA in that category. Alicia Pickett is 40th nationally in blocks and leads the MIAA, while also leading the league in blocks per set. Janelle Brehm is second in the MIAA in total kills.

Brehm is averaging 3.17 kills per set in MIAA play, while averaging 3.59 digs per set overall. Brehm has 983 kills in her career, just 17 from hitting the 1,000 mark. Pickett is averaging 1.03 blocks per set and is the MSSU career leader in block assists with 352. Her 410 total blocks rank fourth all-time in career history at MSSU.

Defensively, Brooklynn McCain leads the way at 3.82 digs per set, while Emalee Lowe is at 3.29 digs per set and Brehm is at 3.59.

UNK spreads the offense around with on one on the team over 3.00 kills per set, however six individuals average over 2.00 kills per set, led by 2.89 from Julianne Jackson. Maddie Squires leads the way with 10.87 assists per set, while Lindsay Nottleman has a team-high 5.16 digs per set.

The Tigers are led by Delaney Humm with 3.54 kills per set, while Katie Darnell leads the way with 7.73 assists per set. Defensively, Abbie Hayes leads the way at 4.05 digs per set.

The Lions will head to Kansas City next Thursday to compete in the 2019 MIAA Tournament heled at Hy-Vee Arena. Time and opponent are still yet to be determined.
