MSSU volleyball falls in three sets to third-ranked Washburn

Topeka, Kan. -- CC Pollard had eight kills and hit .350 but the Missouri Southern women's volleyball team fell on the road at No. 3 ranked Washburn, three sets to none inside Lee Arena. Individual set scores were 15-25, 18-25 and 19-25.

The Lions (13-15, 6-12 MIAA) were led by Pollard's night as she added a block to go with eight kills and a .350 attack average. Janelle Brehm had four kills and a team-high 12 digs in the match, while Kylee Kaaihue dished out 24 assists and added four digs. Morgan Nash had eight kills and six digs, while Cassie Walton and Emalee Lowe had eight and six digs, respectively.

Washburn (24-2, 16-2 MIAA) was led by Genna Berg with 12 kills, while Allison Maxwell had 11 of her own.









Washburn led from start to finish in the opening set, but set two saw nine tied scores and three lead changes. The set was tied at 11, and then again at 13, 14 and 15. The Lions pulled within one (18-17) with a kill from Nash, but two-quick points from the Ichabods forced a Lions' timeout and gave Washburn a 21-17 lead. Washburn held on for the set two win.

Set three saw ten tied scores and five lead changes. The set was tied at eight, before three-straight points from the Ichabods gave Washburn an 11-8 lead. The set was tied at 15, 16 and 17, before three-straight from the Ichabods broke the set open.

The Lions will finish the regular season next weekend with matches at Nebraska-Kearney and Fort Hays State.
