MSSU volleyball wins two in Nebraska

Seward, Neb. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team picked up a pair of victories in the opening day of the Bulldog Bash hosted by Concordia University - Nebraska, defeating Bethany and York.

In the Lions' (2-0) first match of the day, Southern took out Bethany by the score of three sets to none. Individual set scores were 25-12, 21-25, 25-14 and 25-21.

Mikayla Monk had 12 kills and hit .435 in the match, adding five blocks. Janelle Brehm had ten kills and 11 digs, while Alicia Pickett had nine kills and hit .471. Morgan Nash was three kills away from a triple double, picking up 37 assists, 19 digs and seven kills. Alyssa Diazhad nine kills, while Marija Milivojev had 11 digs.

Southern hit .211 as a team, with 69 digs and 18 blocks.

In the second match of the day, Southern swept York (Neb.) by the scores of 25-20, 25-7 and 25-17. The Lions hit .250 as a team, with 35 digs and 20 blocks. Monk had an outstanding match with ten kills, while hitting .833, nearly surpassing Pickett's three-game match record for attack average (.900).

Pickett had 11 kills and hit .562, while Teryn Scot had ten digs and Nash had 28 assists.

The Lions will be back in action tomorrow, taking on University of Mary and Concordia - Nebraska.
