MSSU soccer plays to second straight tie

(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)

Searcy, Ark. - The Missouri Southern soccer team picked up its second-straight tie of the weekend as the Lions played to a 1-1 draw today at Harding University.

Southern (0-2-2) got a goal from Taylor Beck as she had three shots, two on goal today. Mikayla Hutchison and Taylor LePage assisted on the goal. Sarah Tatum had four shots, three on goal, while Glory Almalaha had three shots. LePage had two shots, as well.

Harding (0-3) got a goal from Asia Hollingsworth

The Lions got the scoring started in the 27th minute when Beck took a pass from Hutchison and LePage off the left corner to tap it in and give Southern an early 1-0 lead.

Harding tied it up just three minutes later on a goal from Hollingsworth after a corner kick.

The Lions had an excellent chance inside of six minutes left, as a corner from Brianna Smith was served perfectly and after an initial stop, Tatum's shot was saved by the Lady Bisons' keeper Anna Claire Lewis.

Regulation wended with a 1-1 tie and the teams went to overtime. Neither team got a shot off in the first overtime and the game went to a second overtime tied at one.

Southern had a corner kick late in the second overtime, but it was sniffed out and the game ended with a 1-1 tie.

The Lions will be back in action on Friday, September 15, when Southern plays host to Southwest Baptist in a non-conference tilt. Kickoff from Hal Bodon Field is slated for 6 pm.
