MSSU volleyball falls to Missouri Western

St. Joseph, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team took the first set, but Missouri Western won the final three as the Lions fell three sets to one tonight against the Griffons. Individual set scores were 26-24, 16-25, 19-25, and 16-25.

Southern (9-8, 2-2 MIAA) was led by Janelle Brehm as the freshman had 15 kills and six digs. Alicia Pickett had ten kills and three digs, while Morgan Nash had a double-double with 38 assists and ten digs. Teryn Scott had a team-high 15 digs in the match.

Western (9-8, 3-1 MIAA) had four in double-figure kills, led by Stephanie Doak with 22.

The Griffons had a 22-21 lead late, and again at 23-22 and 24-23, but three-straight errors from Western gave the set to the Lions.

Set two had seven tied scores and four lead changes, but Western took a 14-13 lead midway through and didn't look back.

Set three had two tied scores and two lead changes, and set four saw Western lead from start to finish.

The Lions will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as Southern travels to Northwest Missouri. First serve from Bearcat Arena is slated for 2 pm.
