Seward, Neb. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team came up just short today and dropped a pair of matches in the final day of the Bulldog Bash, hosted by Concordia - Nebraska.
In the first match of the day, the Lions forced extra points in two of the three sets they lost, but couldn't put the match away, falling to the University of Mary, three sets to one. Individual set scores were 24-26, 25-17, 29-31 and 17-25.
Janelle Brehm led the offensive attack in the match with 14 kills, while Sydney Dose added 11. Morgan Nash, just missed out on a double-double with 39 assists and nine digs, while Kat Gries had 12 digs and Teryn Scott added ten of her own. Marija Milivojev added nine digs, while Alicia Pickett had eight blocks. The Lions had 12 team blocks in the match.
In the second match of the day, Southern again took a set to extra points, but couldn't force a fifth set, falling to host Concordia, three sets to one. Individual set scores were 19-25, 22-25, 25-19 and 27-29.
Brehm again led the Lions with 13 kills and 11 digs, while Nash dished out 34 assists and added nine digs and five blocks. Scott had a team-high 15 digs, while Milivojev added 11 digs of her own. Southern had 14 team blocks in the match.
The Lions will be back in action next weekend as the Lions play host to the Towneplace Suites Invitiational inside both Leggett and Platt Athletic Center and Young Gymnasium.
