MSSU golf tied for sixth after first day of J. R. Watkins Invitational

Lake City, Minn. -- The Missouri Southern golf team is tied for sixth place today after the first day of the JR Watkins Invitational hosted by Winona State University at the Jewell GC in Lake City, Minn.

Connor Neil and Tripper Jensen are both tied for 17th after the pair shot a first-round, one-over par 73. Tristan Haltom shot a 74 and is tied for 31st, while Taylor Haltomshot a 77 to finish tied for 55th. Jake Becker is tied for 90th after a first-round 81.

Neil and Jensen are just four shots off the lead.

Arkansas Fort Smith is in the lead in the team standings after the first round as they shot a four-under as a team. Minnesota State is second, followed by Central Missouri and Missouri western tied at third and Washburn in fifth to round out the top five team scores.

The Lions and Winona State are tied for sixth followed by Oklahoma Baptist, St. Cloud State, Augustana, Winona State (B), Minot State, Bemidji State, Bentley, Manitoba, Sioux Falls, Concordia-St. Paul, Upper Iowa and Lincoln to finish out the team totals.

Southern will be back in action tomorrow morning as the Lions will play the final 18 holes.
