Bethany, Okla. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team split a pair of matches today in the opening day of the MIAA/GAC Crossover, falling to Southern Nazarene in the opener, but sweeping Southeastern Oklahoma in the second match of the day.
In the opening match, the Lions (6-4) got out to an early lead taking the first set from the host Southern Nazarene (4-4). Individual set scores in the match were 25-19, 16-25, 21-25 and 22-25.
Janelle Brehm and Alicia Pickett had 11 kills each with Breham adding 14 digs for the double-double. Morgan Nash dished out 37 assists and had 14 digs, while Teryn Scott had a team-high 23 digs of her own. Kat Gries had 12 digs and Marija Milivojev added ten.
In the second match of the day, the Lions hit .190 as a team and limited Southeastern Oklahoma (4-8) to just .025 as they swept the Savage Storm. Individual set scores were 25-23, 25-20 and 25-10.
Bailey Rexford had a stellar match with 12 kills and a .407 attack average, while Brehm had 12 kills of her own to go with nine digs. Nash had her second-straight double-double with 33 assists and 12 digs, while Scott had 17 digs of her own. Milivojev added nine digs.
The Lions had five total blocks in the match.
Southern will be back in action tomorrow as the Lions will play Northwestern Oklahoma at 10 am and East Central at 6 pm.
