Missouri Southern men's basketball coach Jeff Boschee has announced the signing of Kyle Smith to a National Letter of Intent to play basketball and attend Southern starting in the Fall of 2017.

Smith is a 6-5 guard originally from Pittsburg, Kan. and he transfers to Missouri Southern from Neosho County Community College. Smith will have three years of eligibility remaining.

This past season at NCC, Smith started in 28 games where he averaged 8.2 points and 3.7 rebounds, while shooting 33 percent from the three-point line and 76 percent from the free throw line. He averaged 27 minutes per game for the Panthers.

Smith prepped three seasons at Pittsburg High School before playing his senior season at Riverton High School. Smith was a two-time All-Conference selection, as well as a two-time All-Area pick and All-State as a senior.

He averaged 15 points, six rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block per game in his career. The son of Leroy Smith and Bonny Johnson, Smith plans to major in business at Southern.

"We are excited about the addition of Kyle (Smith)," Boschee said. "He is a great kid and outstanding student. His shooting is the first thing that stands out, but he has great athleticism and can really guard the ball. He has also proven the ability to play multiple positions and we are excited he chose to be a Lion."
