(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)

Missouri Southern Women's Basketball head coach Ronnie Ressel announced the signing of Ines Catalan to a national letter of intent.

"We are extremely excited to add Ines (EYE-ness) Catalan Mateos to our 2017 Freshman class," said Ressel. "[She] is a tremendous young lady with a huge heart and passion for learning. Her character and drive for excellence in the classroom and on the court and will make her a perfect fit for our Southern family. Ines has the ability to play either guard position. She is a good athlete that can get to the rim and finish through contact or shoot the three." The 5-7 guard is a graduate of Santa Teresa de Jesus HS in Calahorra La Rioja, Rioja Baja, Spain.

While in high school she was a four-time All-Region selection while helping her team to the Rioja Baja state title and advancing to the national championship tournament during her sophomore season. During her senior season, she averaged 15 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals per contest.

Catalan was also a regional champion in track and field competing in the shot put and one mile race. Ines is the daughter of Victoria Mateos and Jose Antonio Catalan. She plans to major in kinesiology while at Southern.
