Kansas City, Mo. -- Missouri Southern sophomore vaulter Emily Presley has been named the MIAA Women's Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office today.
Presley, a native of St. Clair, Mo., nearly tied the Division II all-time record in the pole vault at Missouri S&T this weekend in the Dewey Allgood Invitational. Presley cleared an NCAA AQ height of 14-05.25 to increase her school record and national lead in the event.
The height is tied for the third-highest all-time in Division II and is seventh-best this year in the NCAA in all divisions. The sophomore had three good attempts at 14-09, which would have tied the NCAA Division II record, but could not clear the bar.
The Lions will be in action next Friday as Southern plays host to the Bill Williams/Bob Laptad Invitational inside Fred G. Hughes Stadium.
