Edmond, Okla. -- The Missouri Southern baseball team utilized a pair of big innings and the Lions took out Central Oklahoma 15-7 today in MIAA play.
Southern (20-15, 12-9 MIAA) got three RBIs each from Max Hogan, Mike Million and Dave Prost. Million scored twice, while he, Prost and Alec Alvarez had two hits each. Hogan scored four times, while Tyler Sutherland hit home run number seven and scored twice, as well. Richie Gorski and Million both had two runs each.
Will Bausinger started and went three innings to get the no-decision. Brandon Saddler threw two thirds of an inning and got the win, while Colin Chandler, Zach Litchen and Cody Smith threw in relief, as well.
UCO (20-12-1, 10-11 MIAA) got three hits each from Brenton Washausen and TJ Sparr.
Southern started the scoring with a run i n the first on an RBI single from Prost. The Lions added four in the second highlighted by a bases-clearing double from Hogan.
UCO added two runs in the bottom of the second, before the Lions scored two more in the third on an RBI from Paulino and an unearned run from Million.
The Bronchos scored a run in the third to make the score 7-4 after three, but two more from the Lions in the sixth on a 2-RBI single from Million put the Lions up 9-4 after six.
After a quick lightning delay in the 7th, UCO scored a run to get the score to 9-5, but the Lions broke open the game with a six-run eighth inning. A two-run double from Prost started the scoring, while Million added an RBI double, scoring Prost. Trevor Burkdoll had an RBI single before Sutherland's home run capped the scoring.
The Bronchos added two runs in the eighth, but it wasn't enough as Smith came in to shut down the game in the ninth.
Southern will be back in action this weekend with a series at Northwest Missouri.
