Emporia, Kan. -- The Missouri Southern women's track and field team picked up a pair of event wins and three provisional or automatic qualifying marks as the Lions competed at the Emporia State Relays Saturday.
Emily Presley and Allie Heckemeyer both had event wins as Presley hit an automatic qualifying mark in the pole vault and Heckemeyer hit a provisional mark in the triple jump.
Presley hit a mark of 13-04.50, just a half an inch off the MSSU school record to win the pole vault. Mylene Loridan was eighth with a mark of 11-01.00, while Samantha Donnell was 12th in a mark of 10-07.00.
Heckemeyer won the triple jump with a leap 39-10.75, more than a foot in front of the second-place finisher where she defeated a field full of Division I athletes. Tiffany Gilford was 13th in the triple jump with a mark of 35-06.50, while Sierra Barrett placed 15th. Heckemeyer was also fourth in the long jump with a leap of 18-00.25.
In other action, Gilford was 31st in the 100m dash in a time of 12.95, while Destiny Akannam was the top Division II finisher in the 200m dash with a time of 25.26. Morgan Smith and Ronise Miller placed 15th and 21st respectively in the race.
Kristen Koch was 22nd in the 400m, while Emily Harris and Sara Linn placed 11th and 13th in the 800m run. Harris was second in the 1,500m with a time of 4:43.81, while Smith placed 12th in the 100m hurdles. Rachel Ray and Kelsey Evans placed 11th and 20th in the 400m hurdles.
The 4x100m relay team was fifth in a time of 48.97. Desirea Buerge was 11th in the shot put with a distance of 39-10.00, while Jenson Maydew was 20th. Buerge was second in the discus with a provisional distance of 158-06.
The Lions will be back in action next weekend competing at the Southwest Baptist Bearcat Invitational.
